Anti-aging lacquers shine on retail shelves with a well-groomed look.

Online Exclusive: ME Nail Polish: The Cure in Your Mani Anti-aging lacquers shine on retail shelves with a well-groomed look.
ME nail polish isn’t ordinary, and neither is its packaging. The first peptide-infused, anti-aging,
anti-brittleness nail polish formula is the first foray into color by anti-aging skin care brand Dermelect, and thus needed to make a splash on shelves. Founder & president Amos Lavian discussed the mindset behind the retail packaging of the ME colors. “We needed more vibrant see-through retail packaging,” he told Beauty Packaging, “as nail polish is usually in a display vehicle, in which retailers have to make a large commitment to space and product.” Instead of a traditional display, Lavian says they chose a clear plastic pillow pouch (a clear recyclable PET), from Printex Packaging, and were able to insert a Mylar card in the back for reflective purposes—and to make the color “explode on shelf.” The pillow also features a “base” that stands on its own on the shelf. Lavian explains how they also played around with the logo, emphasizing the ME in Dermelect, because they appeal to women on the tenet of empowerment—“it’s all about ME.” They used three rows of type for the Dermelect logo, with two printing passes to ensure that the ME shows up more distinctly. “The darker the color, the more the ME stands out,” noted Lavian. The bottle is Italian recyclable glass, made in Bologna by Zignago Vetro, topped with a brushed aluminum cap. Inside is a shorter, artist brush used for fine painting. It all adds up to a sophisticated look, and especially due to the secondary packaging, Lavian noted: “You won’t find anything else like this in the cosmetics market.” The range of six polishes retails for $14 apiece at C.O. Bigelow and a selection of spas as well as at www.dermelect.com.
